How to self motivate
The wikipedia meaning for the word motivation: a term that refers to a process that elicits, controls, and sustains certain behaviors. Motivation is a general term for a group of phenomena that affect the nature of an individual’s behaviour, the strength of the behaviour, and the persistence of the behaviour.
Believe
Believe in you, believe in your ability to put an idea out there no matter how crazy it may seem and working hard to achieving it. The only road blocks along the way are the ones you put up yourself. There is never a better time than now to start believing in your ability to achieve greatness. As the say goes, believe and you will succeed.
Be Positive
Motivation doesn’t always come easy. A negative mind leads to procrastination, self doubt and confusion. Research shows that happiness increases productivity and makes you more successful. By becoming happier, things will happen and positive changes will occur which will lead you to be able to influence and change people. Its time to change the channel of your mindset and be happy.
Deconstruct your fears
Face your anxieties head on as this can be the silent road block that stops you from getting things done, including finding the motivation to face the unknown.
Plan tomorrow, today
Kickstart your day by planning it the day before. Building momentum early in the day usually carries you forward for the day as you are already ‘that one step ahead.’
Monitor your progress
Not only do you need to know where you ultimately want to end up, you need to know where you have started and monitor the progress along the way, after all its the journey that counts. As the cliché goes ‘everything happens for a reason’ and certain events will lead you to dig deep to change the path in which you are travelling.
Reward yourself
Rewards feel good. You work hard, you get rewarded. Create a ‘to do’ list and whenever you complete something on it, treat yourself. Rewards for our efforts are what drives us so no matter how small, congratulate yourself for achieving what you set out to do.
Surround yourself with people you want to be
“The groups you associate with often determine the type of person you become. For people who want improved health, association with other healthy people is usually the strongest and most direct path of change.” The Longevity Project
Success creates success. When we surround ourselves with people and groups where change seems possible, the potential for the change suddenly becomes more real, more achievable.
Applying the above to you
In Tarian Pantry terms, the word motivation means: setting a goal, putting in the hard yards, achieving it and along the way surrounding myself with individuals, organisations and experiences that will continue to drive me to succeed. I also believe failure is not so much a ‘failure’ in the true sense but a lesson that will give extra ammunition to learn and create a stronger more focused person.
Older and wiser
I have learnt to believe in me and focus on the 4 key motivators in my life. They are:
- To be as healthy as I can be to increase my longevity by following a 100% plant-based diet
- To be strong, fit and lean doing what I love the most; running and movement
- To support local farmers by buying my weekly biodynamic and organic food at farmers markets for not only fairness but greater nutritional gain
- To work with like-minded individuals to inspire, educate and create change in both mind and lifestyle.
Ride the rollercoaster
Motivation can be like a roller coaster. The highs and the lows but determination and strength is what sees you through the ride that fundamentally keeps the motivation flowing through our minds. It’s not what you haven’t achieved that should be your focus, but what you can achieve. We may not be able to do much today but we can put the wheels in motion to change tomorrow.
