Something for the mind
How do you notice when you are working with a complicated mind or a simple mind?
The truth is, no matter the mind state at certain times of your life, even your day you will experience some unrest and/or peace; the mind is a forever changing and your “state of mind” changes as it relates to the outside world as well as the perception of your inner thoughts and emotions.
Complicated right.
As an ageing human I am becoming to understand with greater respect the workings of my mind, both emotionally and physically. It’s taken a long time to accept where I am at – I wouldn’t say I am where I want to be but that would be idealist of me to think there is ever a finish line when it comes to understanding who we are and who we wish to be.
We are forever evolving.
I have spent the good part of quarter of my life training my body in movement; the physical action of running, cycling, swimming and most recently the combined physical and emotional act of yoga.
The health of my mind for all these physical activities has been paramount as to how I have accepted where I am on the day of both training and racing; the mind often struggles to think rationally when under stress, even in moments of kindness doubt can set in derail you somewhat.
Seeking a state of balance.
For over 8 years I have adopted a daily meditation practice to help quieten the ‘monkey mind’ or help understand the whirling thoughts that move in and out of the mind. What I have learnt recently is, you can’t stop thoughts – they are a part of the mind but what you can do is help find more space between the thoughts to help bring a greater sense of calm.
Connect with your senses.
Earlier this year, I sought a greater connection with my meditation practice to help understand why sitting mindfully with thoughts, emotions and the senses was going to benefit me as an individual and coach and importantly others to help those I connect with, find a greater place and state of balance.
With so much going on in our world and the world around us at times it’s hard to rationalise with a clear outlook how we find our sense of place and space. We are inundated with messages that as much as we try to ignore, human nature will have us feeding off this information even if we are not consciously aware that we are.
Welcome to the new world.
As I move though my practice and teachings; I invite you, my tribe to learn and grow with me and find a greater sense of groundedness within your Planted Life. There has been no greater time to explore the world of Meditation. Mindfulness. Wisdom. Insight.
