Welcome to 2019!
The year of the Pig: fortune, luck and personality. According to the Chinese Zodiac, pigs have a beautiful personality and are blessed with good fortune in life. If you take this into account, then in 2019 you should seriously consider living a more Planted Life.
Eat More Plants (& less of everything else)
From a young age you would always hear elders say around the dinner table ‘eat your vegetables’. Little did I know at the time but the people who were saying this to us, to you were planting the seed for your future lifestyle diet; they were simply saying, eating more vegetables will give you life, give you energy and create a heathier you from the inside out.
Health
We know through various scientific studies and research that consuming a plant-based diet helps prevent cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, cancer, kidney disease and helps with inflammation, autoimmune diseases and general health. Aren’t these reasons alone to ‘eat more vegetables’ at the dinner table?
Plant-based Food
Despite us being the fattest and unhealthiest generation to date, we have never had the opportunities like we do now to eat a diet that allows us to thrive on plant-based foods; vegetables, fruits, lentils, beans, nuts and seeds not to mention nut cheeses, coconut yoghurt and raw chocolate. In 2019 plant-based foods are more readily available, convenient and affordable.
From your local farmers market, ethical organic grocer and bulk food source, your shopping habits are just as easy and assessable to change as your food choices.
Environment
The benefits living a Planted Life on your health, including weight and not to mention your hip pocket are life changing but what is just as measurable and profound are the effects this diet has when it comes to the environment. Based on three environmental indicators: greenhouse gas emissions, cumulative energy demand and land occupation combining consumption and farm production, these environmental factors are reduced simply by making a change to your diet, namely a plant-based diet.
The Vegan Society webpage ‘Environment and sustainability’ notes:
- A plant-based diet cuts the use of land by 76% and halves the greenhouse gases and other pollution that are caused by food production
- An Oxford University study in June 2018 – which is the most comprehensive analysis to date of the damage farming does to the planet – found that ‘avoiding meat and dairy is the single biggest way to reduce your impact on Earth’ as animal farming provides just 18% of calories but takes up 83% of our farmland
Now is the time to change
Change is defined as “make or become different’ and change happens with your next food decision. Changing your lifestyle diet choice to a Planted Life is regarded as one of the most meaningful steps you can take against animal cruelty, improved health & longevity and the environment; good for us, the animals and the planet.
