Trail Emergency Kit
(or the ‘when it all goes to SHIT’ kit)
Let’s be honest; when we head out for an adventure on the trails the last think we want to think about is the dangers that might occur to not only others but ourselves. Sadly when adventuring in the great outdoors the risks are immense and you need to take various safety precautions to ensure everyone is safe in the elements.
You need to ensure you and others:
- Know your limits (these are based on your experience and fitness level)
- Check the weather and fire conditions especially when adventuring in the warmer months
- Leave your route intentions with somebody; emergency services, police, friends
- Carry adequate clothing for changeable conditions
- Ensure you pack emergency food supplies such as gels and food bars
- Do your route research; know your exit points and nearest emergency services
- Carry an emergency beacon and well stocked first aid kit
When it comes to your First Aid Kit; we highly recommend the following items:
- SMART Bandage (snakes and funnel-webs)
- Survival Splint
- Survival Snake Bite Kit
- SOL Escape Bivvy
