Spring into your lifetime detox
Our diets have changed considerably from our ancestors even our grandparent’s days and the need to regularly detox is becoming more apparent or so we are told. But does it really need to be this way?
Reasons why we detox
- To clear out any stored toxins
- Give your digestive system a rest
- Allow your immune system to reboot
- Refresh your mind for mental and emotional clarity
- Lose weight
- Improve quality of life
- Increase energy
- Improve skin quality
- Restore balance to our body’s systems
If we said you could get all of the above by just exercising daily and adopting a healthy plant based lifestyle diet, would you reconsider your regular 3-5 day detox cleanse?
The human body was designed with our own internal detoxification systems that are constantly working away. In our modern times & diets the intensity of burden (toxins) has increased dramatically creating an overload on our sensitive systems and it’s this overload, which has various companies telling us we need to detox.
But what if you chose not to consume those toxins in the first place? What if you chose to consume a super clean plant based lifestyle diet that eliminated the need to even mutter those words ‘detox’?
What if you took out of the equation the need to cleanse yourself of all your foodie sins of fast food and alcohol fuelled evenings and weekends and have real food as your 24/7 detox?
I know crazy hey? Isn’t it just easier to eat food like products including animal and dairy products and then detox with plant based foods for 3-5 days? Funny how the benefits of plant-based foods are highlighted during a short detox period but not any other day.
If plant based foods can be the answer during this short period, providing you with beneficial nutrients and essential proteins not to mention good fats from nuts, seeds and coconuts why can’t these benefits been seen every day?
If during a ‘detox’ or ‘cleanse’ it is recommended to only participate in ‘light physical activity’ due to the restriction of calories and protein or supplement with a good quality plant protein to maintain a ‘normal level of activity’ shouldn’t this raise an eyebrow of concern?
Because if you followed a real food plant based lifestyle you can participate in light, medium or hardcore physical activity every day with adequate protein & calorie intake – obviously if participating hardcore physically activity you do need to allow yourself adequate recovery time.
So do we detox? Yes we do, daily. No really we do. We detox while eating real food, not just juice because not all of us can give up food for 3 juices a day.
What makes up our detox lifestyle diet? Plants. We eat plants.
Fresh produce including herbs such as parsley and coriander, which are nature’s natural detoxifications.
Fruit including grapefruit, berries and apples all of which are high in water and fibre, ideal for cleaning that digestive track.
Healthy fats; avocado, coconut, chia and hemp seeds
Greens; kale, watercress and dandelion greens.
Garlic, ginger, turmeric and cinnamon – all anti-inflammatory
H2O and flavoured water – lemon, orange, fresh mint, kiwi fruit, strawberries
Herbal teas including chamomile, nettle and peppermint
Kombucha (packed with good bacteria)
Not to mention, plenty of rest.
So now that we are enjoying the benefits of spring; blue skies, warm air and blooming trees, are you ready to start your lifetime detox?
